Garden photos after the rain.

Roses

“But in California it does not ordinarily rain at all between the end of May and the first of November.”

East of Eden, John Steinbeck

Inspiration

Sharing garden photos after the early May rain. Even more rain is coming this week. This has been a stellar year for rain and snow in California. After years of drought, everything is growing and blooming. Lush. Summer will be majestic this year.

  1. We had rains this week also but they were heavy and left no beauty afterwards. You live in heaven, dear ! Thank you for the beauty !

  2. Lucky you to be surrounded by this. I love how flowers and all of the greenery look after a rain. You captured its beauty perfectly. Such a happy, pretty post. 🙂

  3. Beautiful photos Deb! Thanks for sharing. We are enjoying the results of heavier winter rains in Southern California as well. The hillsides where I live are covered in bright yellow mustard interlaced among shades of green foliage. I have lived in this area for 22 years and have never seen anything like it!

    1. Thank you Mary! Yes! It’s been quite the year for mustard, lupin and California poppies.

  4. Such beautiful photos Deb. I love the rain but I am also ready for some warmer weather. I was wondering what this rain will do to all the berries that are ripe.

  5. Hey Deb, such lovely photos of the garden. Your succulents look so happy! Charmed by your grandson — he is so, so cute! I hope you’re doing well. xo

  6. I’ve read maybe half a dozen of Steinbeck’s books, but I don’t recall ever reading _East of Eden_. Love the quotes you put at the top of each post — I’m definitely going to have to read that one of these days. Anyway, fun pictures — thanks.

    1. Thank you for the kind comment John! I chose East of Eden for my blog, as the setting of the novel is Salinas and the Salinas Valley. This is where John Steinbeck was born, grew up and where I live. East of Eden is a fascinating novel. The story weaves the parable of Cain and Abel with actual people, such as John’s maternal grandparents who lived in the southern Salinas Valley. He also writes about his childhood in Salinas, while including the Biblical parable with fictional characters. (BTW, My favorite John Steinbeck book is The Grapes of Wrath.)
