“Of course it occurred to him that he might be wrong, that some misbegotten shadow had fallen across his face and warped his seeing.”
East of Eden, John Steinbeck
Inspiration
I’m not a health food junkie and always find a way to enjoy an occasional sweet. Yes! But I’m also aware of hovering heath issues, especially the osteoarthritis I inherited from both my parents. Prescription meds help, but like many other diseases, it progresses. Inflammation is a body’s enemy. It was difficult for me to believe that certain foods would quickly reduce the inflammation, but amazingly they do. The super food turmeric, short acting and hemp seed hearts, longer acting have changed my daily life. How do I know? I added them to my diet and then stopped when my supply was exhausted. Within a week I was miserable again. Now both turmeric and hemp seed hearts are part of our lunch time smoothies.
Lunch time smoothies give way to afternoon snack cravings. No-bake Chocolate Superfood Energy Bites hit all the right snack notes. Rich with dark chocolate flavor, the superfoods cacao, hemp seed hearts and turmeric work their magic in the background. Chocolate Superfood Energy Bites are a snack with purpose.
Essentials
All that turmeric will color hands an ochre yellow but the Chocolate Superfood Energy Bites will remain dark chocolate in color and flavor. I’m partial to the pleasant, soft exterior crunch of sesame seeds–or roll the Chocolate Superfood Energy Bites in more cacao power, turmeric or hemp seed hearts. The rich flavor combination of dusky cacao with tahini and walnuts is a favorite. Almonds also make excellent Chocolate Superfood Energy Bites. To make Chocolate Superfood Energy Bites with almonds sub almonds for the walnuts and 8 tablespoons of almond butter for the 3 tablespoons of tahini. Roll the bites in ground almonds. Next up, Chocolate Superfood Energy Bites with hazelnuts —Nutella flavor, healthy ingredients.

Thank you Laura!
It is wonderful that you have found some relief by adding these superfoods. Your snacks sound great. BTW, your strawberry crumble cake is a winner as well.
Thank you Karen!
I’m in love with turmeric and this one is super food for super hot days coming ! Thank you so much !
Thank you 2Pots!
Love turmeric! I eat it for its wonderful flavor and color, but of course its health benefits are superb. Hemp seeds I haven’t played with as an ingredient — I really should. Maybe by making these energy bites? They look really good. Thanks!
Thank you John!
I have never used hemp seeds but your treat looks so good and healthy and I hope to try it as soon as I get home, I put sliced turmeric roots in my tea and hope that it helps me with my arthritis .
Thank you Gerlinde! Fresh turmeric root tea is helpful but it would take a large amount to have enough of the curcumin from the turmeric to make a huge difference.
I’ve started seeing hemp seeds in a few recipes here and there but this one is the most exciting one I’ve seen. Any little energy bite with a little chocolate catches my eye immediately. I guess it’s time to pick up some hemp seeds. Great recipe Deb! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you MJ! Hemp seeds are a wonderful addition to so many recipes.
So healthy and i am sure tasty too.
Thank you Denise! These Superfood Energy Bites are all about the chocolate!
